Napa Valley
experienced a perfect growing season in 1997, providing grapes
that were luscious and profuse. Budbreak was mid-March; bloom
was May 10; and summer temperatures were moderate and even.
The 1997 Vineyard 29 shows great potential for complex development
and a long future. As with most of our vintages, the nose
presents lush, dark fruit. On the palate, the wine is very
well balanced, with a lengthy finish. Heidi Barrett, who made
this wine, should be proud.
Reviews:
Robert
Parker Jr., The Wine Advocate:
"Sweet,
rich, full, and concentrated is the 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon.
A deep ruby/purple color is followed by pure black currant
fruit intertwine with tobacco, vanillin, and spice. This lush,
full-bodied effort displays sweet tannin, and cuts a powerful
swath across the palate. The finish reveals high extraction
and harmony. It will be even better in 1-3 years, and should
last for two decades."
Stephen
Tanzer's International Wine Cellar:
"Full
ruby red. Full-blown aromas of black raspberry, black cherry,
minerals, tar and tobacco. Lush, dense and very concentrated,
with deep dark fruit flavors complicated by roasted flinty
and floral nuances. Firm acids give the flavors very good
definition. Thicker than the '98. Finishes with big but ripe
and even tannins. Also showing very well."
